Giovanni Marks est Subtitle, pour ceux qui n’auraient pas tiltés. On ne vous le présente plus, tant on vous l’aura servi à toutes les sauces ces dernières années (à juste titre), que ce soit à travers des chroniques ou des interviews à rallonge. Après vous être rassasié de toute cette lecture, rien de tel qu’un petit digestif, qu’en dites-vous? Un album de trois quarts d’heure fera bien l’affaire. De quoi vous rendre compte du talent de ce phénomène de plus de deux mètres qui aura engendré quelques-uns des joyaux les plus brillants de l’underground californien. 20 titres inédits, des freestyles fraîchement sortis de sa MPC, des morceaux que vous avez peut-être déjà eu la chance d’entendre lors de sa précédente tournée française ou sur sa page myspace, mais rien qui ne soit déjà sorti sur cd. Les fans frustrés de l’absence de Subtee aux machines sur ses derniers albums seront ravis de pouvoir profiter à nouveau de son univers si particulier. Après l’éminent Thavius Beck, c’est donc l’autre tête de l’hydre Labwaste qui est à l’honneur sur Hip Hop Core Records et qui nous honore avec ce « Black Adam », inspiré par le héros du même nom des studios DC Comics. I started the marauders project early last year. I was in NY and heard a tribe joint from the Marauder album. I thought to myself it would be dope to take all the original Midnight Marauder samples and re-work them to make new joints. At first, it was crazy because all the tribe songs are so distinct that no matter what i did to the break, they all still sounded the same. Because of this, I was’nt getting it done as quickly as I wanted so After chopping a few tracks, I realized it would be even better to go deeper into the record they used and pull out different parts to flip. It worked out well because now you hear the tracks in a different way but it’s still connected and « Manipulated »
